What to Do If You Got Rejected From PT School
Dec 14, 2021You applied everywhere, did all of the interviews and got rejected... First of all, I'm sorry if that happened to you... So now, the question at hand might be: What do I do next? Here are four steps you can take to help answer that question.
- Self-reflect
- Continue observation hours
- Retake your classes
- Strategize how to approach PTCAs
Here are the tips more in depth.
- Self-reflect
One of the first steps is to ask yourself: Do I want to move forward with becoming a PT? Or do I want to choose another path?
- Continue observation hours
At this point, you've decided that you want to continue with trying to be a PT. You should stick to what you have been doing as logging observation hours, being a PT aide, a PT volunteer, etc. Now, if you're not in any of these things, you definitely should!!
If you are in one of these positions, try to diversity to strengthen your application. For example, if you're in an ortho, try going to neuro. - Retake your classes
Chances are, you didn't get a 4.0 in all your classes, right? The best way to strengthen your application is to retake those classes. I would start from the classes you got the lowest grades in and work your way from there. - Strategize how to approach PTCAs
Here's a little secret: most PT schools have rolling admissions! You have to know when PT cast opens--usually it's July every year. Many students don't know this and they apply by the deadline. Now, that's usually not a problem, but for schools with rolling admissions, let me explain why this is important to get your application in early.
If there are 50 open spots in the program, when you apply early, the school will read your application and will reach out with an interview. Then it will be you with the hopes of landing one of those 50 spots. However, if you apply close to the deadline or on the deadline, it will be you hoping to land maybe the last 2 spots left open with the same amount of people trying to apply for that.
I hope these steps help you in your process moving forward!
