Do you have a virtual physical therapy school interview coming up and you want to know how to prepare for it? Here are 11 tips on how to best prepare for your upcoming interview!

  1. Check your connection
  2. Check your screensaver
  3. Check your notifications
  4. Check your background noise
  5. Check your microphone
  6. Check your lighting
  7. Check your background
  8. Check your clothing
  9. Check yourself
  10. Check your software
  11. Check your school

What do all these mean?

  1. Check your connection
There is nothing worse than having your device lag or have internet inconsistencies during an interview! You want your internet connection to be 2-3 upload/download speed. Wondering how to check? Simply Google, "Internet test" and you should be able to check your speed. If your speed if less than 2-3 upload/download speed, go to a place with more internet.

  2. Check your screensaver
Make sure your computer does not turn on the screensaver during your interview. You want to make sure your screen does not turn black or shut down during your interview.

  3. Check your notifications
Put your computer on do not disturb! Or wear headphones during your interview so that only you can hear the notification sounds rather than your interviewer.

  4. Check your background noise
Try to avoid loud winds, lawnmowers, etc. that can be heard during your interview. Before an interview, try to either go or imagine the place you will have your interview and listen. Are there any noises that can be picked up and heard by the interviewer? There is nothing more distracting when the interviewer cannot hear you because of someone mowing the lawn.

  5. Check your microphone
Make sure your mic is clear and not fuzzy. Headphones with a connected microphone or a separate plug-in microphone would be best.

  6. Check your lighting
Have the best lighting! To help, put your camera in front of a window or a lamp so the light is shining on your face. You want to avoid having any shadows on you from bad lighting. Better light helps make you a more attractive candidate. Super simple, but makes the biggest difference!

  7. Check your background
Make sure there are not any clothes hanging around and your bed is made. Have the background simple for this helps minimize distractions for the interviewer.

  8. Check your clothing
Do not wear clothes the same color as your background. No one wants to see a floating head! If you need help with outfit ideas, you can Google “interview outfits.”

  9. Check yourself
You do not want to wait until the interview starts to checking yourself out through the viewfinder. Imagine what the interviewer will think when you’re over there during the start of your interview checking out your eyebrows! Remember to check your appearance before the call. Either look in the mirror or even better, open up your webcam to see how the interviewer will see you. Get your hair in place and make sure there is nothing in your teeth!

  10. Check your software
Try out the interview software (i.e. Zoom, Google Hangouts) with family or friends during the same time of your interview to make sure there isn’t any difficulties.

  11. Check your school
Research your school! What's their mission statement? Who are the faculty? Do your research!
