Actual Physical Therapy School Interview Questions

So you have a PT school interview coming up! Nervous about what kinds of questions the interview panel might ask? From my experience of coaching students and my personal experience of going through the interview process, these are the types of questions being asked.

They are usually broken down into these five categories:

1. Situation-based Q's
2. Knowledge-based and skills Q's
3. Interpersonal relationship Q's
4. Personal life Q's
5. Ethical and philosophical Q's

Here are some examples of each category!

1. Situation-based Q's
   1. Can you provide an example of how you’ve handled a stressful situation in the past?
   2. How would you motivate yourself to study when you feel overwhelmed and unmotivated?
      
      
2. Knowledge-based and skills Q's: The interview panel will ask questions in this category to see if you are knowledgeable in the physical therapy field and to see what you know about it.
   1. What do you know about the different fields of physical therapy and which one interests you?
   2. What is your perspective on the APTA vision and mission statement?
      
      
3. Interpersonal relationship Q's: These questions are critical for the panel to ask because physical therapists are all about working with people. 
   1. Tell me about a time when active listening paid off.
   2. Tell me about a time when you led by example.
      
      
4. Personal life Q's: Being asked these questions show the panel if you are well-rounded, have hobbies, etc... This should be the only time in the whole interview when you share about your personal life.
   1. What was the last book you read that you found interesting?
   2. If you could ask your friends or family, what would they say is your biggest flaw?
      
      
5. Ethical and philosophical Q's
   1. What would you do if you saw someone cheating?
   2. Describe what diversity in the physical therapy setting means to you.
